How To Use Our Prevention Resource Library
This library contains links to resources and regional, state, and national organizations related to substance abuse prevention and healthy communities. The contents of the library are organized alphabetically by topic and some resources may appear under multiple topics. As we create or discover new resources, they will be added to this library.
We encourage you to explore these helpful resources and check back periodically for new or updated links.
Afterschool
A statewide nonprofit dedicated to ensuring that the children and youth in every Vermont community are able to benefit from the power of afterschool, summer learning, and third space programs during the out-of-school time hours.
Alcohol
This tool designed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention checks your drinking and can give advice. If you want to drink less, it can also help you build a plan to make healthier choices.

National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism
The mission of the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism is to generate and disseminate fundamental knowledge about the effects of alcohol on health and well-being, and apply that knowledge to improve diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of alcohol-related problems, including alcohol use disorder, across the lifespan.
The Rethinking Drinking: Alcohol & Your Health website is a resource built by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, the National Institutes of Health, and the US Department of Health and Human Services to help people evaluate their own drinking and provide access to tools to help make changes in their drinking behavior.

Parents are the #1 influence on youth substance use, meaning you have a major impact on whether or not your child chooses to use cannabis (marijuana, hashish, weed, pot, etc.). Parents and mentors have the opportunity to promote substance-free norms and prevent young people from using cannabis. This resource comes from the Vermont Department of Health and includes fact sheets targeting the parent and mentor audience.

Search Institute is a nonprofit organization with a sixty-plus-year history of collaboration with partners to conduct and apply research that promotes positive youth development and advances equity. Prevention
Green Peak Alliance is a regional network that promotes healthy communities in East Central Vermont and includes the Vermont Department of Health District Offices of White River Junction and Springfield. We bring federal and state resources to local areas in our work with schools and service organizations. Through research, education, and outreach, we create conditions to positively influence the public by increasing youth assets and reducing risks.
Healthy Lamoille Valley is a coalition of individuals and community organizations working collaboratively to prevent and reduce youth substance misuse and encourage youth to make substance free healthy choices. They are a program of the nonprofit Lamoille Family Center, one of 15 Parent Child Centers across the state of Vermont providing a network of care for children, families and youth.

CATCH My Breath is an evidence-based prevention program with a peer-led teaching approach that empowers students with the knowledge and skills needed to make informed decisions about e-cigarettes and resist social pressures to vape.
